It's primary objective is to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively teach students at the Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary stages, following the revised educational framework outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020. A student undergoing this program will be grounded in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, tribal tradition and also well versed in latest advances in education and pedagogy. The programme caters to the need for 21st Century skills.

Director's Message

"No nation can rise above the level of its teachers."

The IITs were initially envisioned as institutions for generating new knowledge in the form of research papers, as well as producing high-quality human resources for industries, defense, research labs, and educational institutions. These institutions were later tasked with applying their expertise to address societal problems through sponsored and consultancy projects. In recent years, the IITs have started contributing to wealth generation by fostering entrepreneurs and supporting startup incubation. Now, commencing from the 2023-24 academic session, through ITEP, IIT Bhubaneswar is embarking on a new endeavor to cultivate exceptional teachers for school education thereby expanding its scope and impact on our nation.

The program has been meticulously crafted to offer aspiring educators a well-rounded and all-encompassing educational experience.

Multidisciplinary Approach

The ITEP emphasizes the value of a multidisciplinary approach to teacher education, recognizing the necessity for broad input from other disciplines. It emphasizes the importance of educating aspiring teachers with a thorough understanding of high-quality content and successful teaching. This approach allows trainees to explore subjects outside of the field of education, resulting in a well-rounded and adaptable educational experience. It promotes academic inquiry and personalization by encouraging students to choose majors and minors compatible with their interests and objectives in conjunction with their teacher education curriculum. This technique encourages the development of a broad perspective and mastery of a specific subject area.

Foundation in Science and Liberal Arts

The ITEP focuses on building a solid foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. It ensures teachers are well-versed in various disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and sciences. This broad-based education equips them with a deeper understanding of their subjects and enhances their teaching abilities.

Practical Training and Internships

The ITEP emphasizes practical training and internships to provide hands-on experience in classrooms. It includes rigorous school-based experiences, teaching practice, and internships to enable aspiring teachers to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This practical exposure helps in developing pedagogical skills and classroom management techniques.

Integration of Education Technology

The ITEP recognizes the importance of technology in education and aims to integrate educational technology into teacher education. It focuses on training teachers to effectively utilize digital tools, online learning platforms, and technology-enabled teaching methods. This equips them to adapt to the changing educational landscape and harness the potential of technology for improved learning outcomes.

Continuous Professional Development

The ITEP emphasizes the need for continuous professional development of teachers. It promotes lifelong learning and provides opportunities for teachers to upgrade their skills, pursue research, and engage in professional growth throughout their careers.
